Killeen, Texas, June 26, 2008 – In honor of July 4th and the sacrifices made by the men and women of the U.S. military, Proactive Communications, Inc. (PCI), TANDBERG and the Freedom Calls Foundation are proud to offer their video conferencing networks to families of Ft. Hood-based military personnel. As part of a nationwide program, free video conferencing calls will be available to military families in Killeen, Texas, enabling them to connect with family and friends stationed in Iraq. The nationwide events will take place on July 1, 2008, with extended Killeen dates through July 4 (see schedule below for details).
Through private, 30-minute video conferencing calls from various locations in Killeen, family and friends of military personnel currently deployed at Camp Prosperity in Iraq’s Baghdad Green Zone will have the opportunity to communicate face-to-face with troops.
“We are overwhelmed by the positive responses we have received from our troops and their families,” said Dan Vega, logistics manager at PCI. “The free video calls are just a small way for us to show how appreciative we are of the sacrifices our men and women in the military are making. What better day to honor them than on Independence Day.”
“We are extremely honored to get the chance to come together with PCI and TANDBERG to connect troops and their families on Independence Day,” said John Harlow, Executive Director Freedom Calls Foundation. “The contribution of resources by community citizens like PCI gives the Foundation the ability to provide our service men and women in the war zone with some semblance of home.”
Killeen, Texas – April 1, 2008 – Proactive Communications, Inc. (PCI), a trusted all-conditions worldwide SATCOM provider, today announced that its contract with the Iraqi Ministry of the Interior (MOI) for operations and maintenance of the MOI’s satellite communications network has been extended through June. The three month extension was requested by the MOI to ensure they had set conditions for complete ownership.
“PCI has been more than honored to contribute to the reconstruction efforts in Iraq,” stated PCI’s president and CEO, Marc LeGare. “We are dedicated to be a part of this project for as long as is needed in order for the communications system to be fully transitioned for maintenance and operation by trained Iraqi communications personnel, which has been the main goal since the inception of this project.”
The work that PCI has conducted with the MOI resulted in the very first contract between the MOI and a U.S.-based company and began in March 2007. Construction of the network – which originally consisted of over 250 sites in Baghdad and the rest of the country – was completed in January of 2007 and was then turned over to the MOI with the continued support of PCI. The most recent contract that PCI held with the MOI that expired in April was valued at $12 million for 12 months. PCI indicated that the current contract may be granted another extension, to be determined closer to the expiration date at the end of June.
The satellite communications system that PCI has constructed, which is run off of the world’s largest secured VoIP satellite, has provided secure communications between almost 6,000 Iraqi police, commandos, customer officials and command centers for fully encrypted phone, email and VoIP-over-satellite. Within the past year, services have been extended to other agencies beyond the MOI, including the Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In order to transition the maintenance and operation of the network, PCI has trained over 1,000 users, and 80 additional MOI personnel for level 1 trouble shooting and network familiarity.
